One year in, almost forty.

October marks a full year since I stepped out on my own with nothing but a branding pitch, no clients, and a strong sense that if I didn’t start now, I might never start.

A year later, I find myself with a steady roster of clients and gigs. But numbers don’t tell the whole story.

What got me here wasn’t just work. It was putting myself out there when I felt most vulnerable. It was writing, sharing, networking, not just to gain attention, but to connect with people who resonate with what I stand for. That resonance help me bridge a path to the right clients; the ones who valued not just output, but alignment.

Still, the road wasn’t without its potholes. Three months ago, life and work collided in ways that left me stretched thin and reactive. I pulled back on self-promotion, stopped showing up online, and redirected all of my energy into producing quality for those I vowed commitment to.

It reminded me that growth is not always visible. Sometimes, it’s quiet; moving in the shadows, building you with resilience.

As I reflect on this past year, approaching  forty, I see my story as a series of chapters:

  • Some coming to a close, mayhaps for good.

  • Some reopening in surprising ways.

  • But so many are still unwritten.

Freelancing wasn’t just a career shift; It became a gigantic-arsed mirror that showed me where I was still carrying old fears, where I needed to trust myself more, and where I was capable of far more than I’d let myself believe.

This milestone isn’t the finish line. It’s simply a marker on the path, to remind me that the work, struggle,  joy, and the unknown are all part of building something that feels meaningful and true.

Here’s to becoming!  To new chapters and to  the unwritten.
